I had just moved north, so I was no longer near my regular physio and didn’t have the same support around me. An MRI confirmed I had torn the tops of both hamstrings.I tried everything — osteopaths, massage therapists, and PRP injections. I’d occasionally see my physio when I was back in Sydney, but since that was only every few months, it wasn’t enough to make any real progress. My biggest struggle was sitting. I’d be in excruciating pain if I sat for any length of time, which made simple things like having dinner, going to the movies, or even being in the car almost impossible. On top of that, I have ongoing lower back issues from previous work injuries, so I was constantly dealing with pain. I felt like I’d tried everything, but nothing helped. I stopped training altogether because I was afraid of making it worse — yet the pain persisted.By the time I heard about Holistic Rehabilitation, I was at my wits’ end. What stood out to me was that it offered a complete program I could do from home, with videos and resources I could refer back to so I knew I was doing the exercises correctly. I also took up the option of yoga instruction, a dietitian to help reduce inflammation through nutrition, and a life coach to build a more positive mindset. I liked that it wasn’t just about treating the injury — it focused on the whole person.The biggest change for me has been getting moving again. I have been to numerous practitioners over the years who have helped but the results have been short term. After having surgery a few years ago and managing well with light exercise, movement, and regular massages, I came to Dan to build strength, lose weight, and re-establish a consistent training routine following a recent flare-up.There’s a lot to appreciate. The gym and studio space at Dan and Laura’s home is set in a beautiful natural environment, creating a calming and healing atmosphere that’s genuinely enjoyable to train in. Both Dan and Laura are clearly passionate about what they do and generous with their time, which I really valued. I also appreciated the rotation of a new program every four weeks—it helped build on existing foundations and kept things fresh and interesting.That said, there were a few areas that could be improved. While Dan is an excellent communicator, I did feel there was a gap between what was initially pitched—particularly around the integrated support for training, nutrition, and yoga—and what was actually delivered. A structured introduction session involving all three coaches or clearer coordination across the team would help bring the holistic offering together more effectively.Dan’s philosophy promotes independence and doing the work at home, which I respect, but I found myself needing a bit more contact and accountability outside of the weekly face-to-face session. Given the price point of the Holistic Wellbeing Program—the highest I’ve ever paid for one-on-one coaching—I had expected more active coaching, encouragement, or regular check-ins/texts throughout the week. Perhaps a weekly survey or check in form would encourage a more open conversation.Overall, it was still a valuable experience.
